What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural, altered state of consciousness. In hypnosis, your mind is aware and alert, while you experience a state of pleasant physical relaxation, heightened senses, increased concentration level and increased suggestibility.
Hypnosis can be a comfortable and enjoyable experience. In this state, your subconscious mind accepts beneficial suggestions or positive direction, and then proceeds to create it in your life. Your subconscious mind functions to create whatever you think and believe!
Hypnosis helps harness the power of your subconscious mind!
Hypnosis is an effective way of connecting with the subconscious or higher-conscious inner self. The subconscious is the storehouse of our imagination, long-term memories, emotions and habit patterns. The subconscious also controls our involuntary, physiological and healing processes / functions.
Your thoughts affect all of the functions of your body. Anger, worry and anxiety have been scientifically proven to have a negative affect on your physical bodily functions.
Subconscious programming can be the source of our problems or our potential solutions. Thoughts create actions or reactions, and over time produce habits, either positive or negative.
In order to make positive changes in our lives, we need to change our subconscious thought patterns and programming thru accepting positive suggestions in the hypnotic state.
Hypnosis can change your beliefs, attitudes or behaviors to ones which are more positive and desired!
Hypnosis works with the alpha or theta states of mental activity. The alpha level deals with the subconscious mind. Alpha level activities include meditation, daydreaming, fantasizing, being focused upon a television program or a good book, and the states before crossing over into the sleep state and awakening.
The theta state is an even deeper level of the unconscious mind. In hypnosis, the conscious (logical / analytical) mind is temporarily set aside or relaxed, and the therapist deals with the client's subconscious mind directly.
A hypnotized person cannot be told to do or say anything that is against their moral or ethical code. The client is never under anyone's control but their own.
People that can be hypnotized easily are intelligent, have good memory, good focus and concentration ability, can visualize and express emotions easily, and can get into a daydream state easily.
I use NLP (neuro-linguistic-programming) and Time Line therapy in my sessions, as beneficial additional modalities to hypnotherapy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it feel like to be hypnotized? In the hypnotic state, you can feel deep physical and mental relaxation. Your mind is able to selectively focus and concentrate easier. Visual and kinesthetic experiences appear more vivid. Your mind is still alert, and you are actually in a 'heightened state of awareness'. In fact, you may think you are not in hypnosis, when actually you really are.
Is the hypnotic state natural? Yes. The hypnotic trance state is just a natural and normal shift of your awareness. Examples of other hypnotic states are: daydreaming, meditating, being deeply involved in watching a movie or reading a book, or any other activity where you are deeply focused/concentrating on something.
Can the hypnotist make me do or say anything I don't want to do? Absolutely NOT! No one can be hypnotized to do or say anything that is against their will or moral-ethical code. The client is never under anyone's control but their own.
What is a typical hypnosis session like?
First, the therapist conducts an interview to find out what the client wants from their session: their issues and therapy goals. Then the client gets physically comfortable, either in a recliner or on a couch. The therapist now begins the induction - using words to induce the hypnotic state. The therapist then facilitates the rest of the session according to what the client's goals are. After this is accomplished, the client is gently brought out of the hypnotic state. Then the therapist and client discuss the session.
How long does a session last?
This depends upon the therapeutic progress that is made in a session. Typically, sessions can last from 1 hour to 1-1/2 hours. Spiritual regression sessions can last longer.
How many sessions does a client need?
This also depends upon the needs and progress of the client. Some clients may only need one session, but typically, more progress is made with at least 3-5 sessions. Extra sessions also help a client get used to easily going into the hypnotic state, and so be able to have more efficient sessions.
Unwanted behaviors, like those dealing with weight control, are best dealt with in at least 4 sessions. Past learned behaviors and habits did not happen overnight, and so more time is needed to adequately deal with reprogramming those behaviors.

"I had a relaxing hypnosis session with Debra, in which I felt no body pain and was completely relaxed, which is a rare feeling for me. I would recommend her to anyone seeking this type of therapy." ~ Nelda L.
"I had an extraordinary experience in a hypnotherapy session with Debra. She was able to take me very deep quickly and made a powerful hypnotic suggestion that 1 hour of sleep would seem like 2 hours. I happened to only get a few hours sleep that night, but I awoke refreshed, as if I had slept 8 hours. And that sleep hypnosis suggestion lasted for a long time. I am truly convinced that her hypnotherapy sessions are very helpful and powerful, as it had a very profound, lasting effect upon me." ~ Craig P.
